Description
Body is decorated with black-figure lion facing a winged swan. The lion's facial features, mane, and musculature are enhanced by extensive incised details. The swan is nicely detailed. The shoulder and rim is decorated with sun rays. Aryballi were used by athletes to hold oil that was dropped unto the body before exercise or competition. They often appear hanging by a small strap from the athlete's wrist in gymnasium scenes.
