WELLINGTON DUKE OF: (1769-1852) Anglo-Irish Field Marshal & British Prime Minister 1828-30, 1834. A.L.S., Wellington, one page, 8vo, London, 6th June 1834, to a Gentleman. Wellington informs his correspondent, in part, 'I am not exactly aware of the arrangements made by the Authorities of the University in the theatre. But Mrs. Barring (?) and her friend may reply upon it that if she should go to Oxford upon this occasion I will do everything in my power and enable… her stay there agreeable…' With signs of former mounting to the verso, and light age wear, otherwise VG The letter refers to the Duke of Wellington's installation as Chancellor of the University of Oxford, which took place in the University Theatre on the 10th, 11th and 13th June 1834.
