AMERICAN DATED LINEN DRAWN-WORK CHEVRON AND DIAMOND TWILL-WEAVE HAND TOWEL / SHOW TOWEL, rectangular, drawn-work at bottom; design featuring maker's name "SUSANNA LEITH" and date "1837", drawn-work featuring a bouquet of flowers with hearts, two eight-pointed stars, and two small birds with red embroidery thread accents. Likely Pennsylvania. Dated 1837. 50" x 11 1/2" OA.
Very good condition overall with some toning, fading of red embroidery thread, and minor scattered stains.
Provenance: From the Allentown Art Museum to benefit future acquisitions for the Museum's textile collection.
