Description
Two Pieces of Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware, Northeastern U.S. origin, first quarter 19th century, a rare one-gallon ovoid jug with cobalt highlights to handle terminals and maker's mark, stamped "ARMSTRONG / &&&&&&& / WENTWORTH / NORWICH", CT origin, possibly a test piece; paired with a three-gallon bowl-shaped jar with cobalt floral and X motifs and cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market lot, purchased by the consignor decades ago. Norwich jug with short lines to base, small base chips, and minor in-the-firing flaws. Jar is slightly misshapen, with some flakes to surface, rim chips, base chips, two short lines from rim, the one handle with a relatively minor in-the-firing chip and in-the-firing line.
