One-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Spotted Cobalt Decoration, Northeastern U.S. origin, probably Manhattan, NY, early 19th century, ovoid jug with footed base and heavily-tooled spout, decorated with a series of brushed, graduated cobalt spots at the shoulder. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Handle slumped during firing. A 1 1/2" X-shaped, in-the-firing surface line to reverse, emanating from a small lime ping. Additional firing flaws to surface, including recessed spots, contact marks, and a small bloated spot. The front with a lime ping or small filled hole.
