Description
“The Age of Bronze”. Unsigned. Bronze with Green Patina. Height 22 ¾”. Width square 5 ¼”. (2000/3000) Cf. Rodin’s bronze titled “The Age of Bronze” was a 72" high life sized cast of a male nude originally modeled and cast in 1876, although Rodin continued to produce casts of the bronze work for several decades after its 1876 initial presentation. When Rodin created the bronze he created a man, one who knows suffering yet appears heroic. The figure is reflective of what many of Rodin's countrymen went through while fighting in the Franco-Prussian War from 1870 to 1871. Rodin took his inspiration from classicism, the classicism of the Renaissance, as seen in the work of Michelangelo and from classical Antiquity.
