Rome, Imperial Period, Hadrian, ca. 117 to 138 CE. AR denarius (3.53 grams). Rome Mint. Obverse: HADRIANVS AVGVSTVS, laureate head right. Reverse: COS III, Roma seated right on cuirass and shield, holding spear and parazonium. Cp. RIC 163c. Size: 0.75" W (1.9 cm)

This coin is from late in Hadrian's reign (117 to 138 CE). Hadrian, the third of the Five Good Emperors, built one of the Roman Empire's most lasting monuments: Hadrian's wall, across northern England, as well as rebuilding the Pantheon and constructing the Temple of Venus and Roma.
