Item Details
Description
**First Time At Auction**

Roman, early Imperial period, ca. 1st century CE. A circular-bodied ceramic oil lamp with a majestic eagle depicted in low relief on the central, concave discus. A wide spout projects from one side of the vessel, which has no handle. The base may have once had a maker's mark stamped into it, but it is obscured by archaeological deposits. The Roman eagle was a symbol of the legions. Size: 3.9" L x 2.75" W x 1.1" H (9.9 cm x 7 cm x 2.8 cm)

Provenance: private Schroeder collection, Boca Raton, Florida, USA, acquired before 1970
