Description
Pre-Columbian, north coast of Peru, Sican/Lambayeque culture, ca. 750 to 1370 CE. A delightful double-lobed vessel, each lobe standing on a conical, hollow base. A wide, horizontal strap handle connects the two lobes, one of which has a very tall, conical spout, and the other of which has a charming figure of a musician standing atop it. The figure is blowing into pipes, wide-eyed, and wears a zoomorphic - probably bird-headed - headdress that has a perforation to allow the whistling sound to escape. Size: 8.8" L x 4" W x 10.45" H (22.4 cm x 10.2 cm x 26.5 cm)
