Frederick Landseer Maur Griggs (English, 1876-1938), "The Ford"-circa 1915-1921, etching, third state (of six states total), from a limited edition run of 60 impressions (within this state), pencil signed "F.L. Griggs" lower right margin. Finely rendered architectural etching depicting causeway or canal flanked by stone and wood buildings, woman in foreground at right near stone steps to access water. Unframed sheet size approximately 9.4" x 12.6". Image size approximately 5.8" x 9.5". Reference: Comstock, 9iii. Note: This work is included in "A Gothic Vision: F.L. Griggs and His Work" by Francis Adams Comstock, published by the Boston Public Library in 1978 (second printing) on pages 68 -71. The author notes that other third state impressions of this work are located in collections at the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford, England; the Boston Public Library; the National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa; the Philadelphia Museum of Art; and the Victoria & Albert Museum, London, England.
