Description
Roman Empire, Imperial Period, ca. 3rd century CE. A mold-made terracotta red slipware oil-burning vessel with a flat concentric ring base, rounded shoulders with raised bunches of grapes on either side of a ringed fill hole - perhaps a reference to Bacchus/Dionysos, god of the grape harvest, wine, and winemaking - an elegant palmette handle, and a flared wick spout. Lucite stand not included. Size: 5" L x 2.5" W x 2" H (12.7 cm x 6.4 cm x 5.1 cm).

Provenance: private Schroeder collection, Boca Raton, Florida, USA, acquired before 1970
