Description
Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 2nd to 4th century CE. A spectacular Roman blue-green glass double unguentarium, sometimes called a balsamarium, with two sinous trail handles on each side. The conjoined tubes have a continuous band of pale green trail decoration starting at the top of rim and ending just above the base. Wealthy women in ancient Roman times would employ these pieces to contain their precious unguents or oils, or for holding two different colors of kohl eye makeup. A lovely example with areas of rainbow and silvery iridescence. Custom stand. Size: 4.375" H (11.1 cm); 5.625" H (14.3 cm) on stand
