Pre-Columbian, Peru, ca. 17th century CE. A wooden kero (quero) inspired by Inca examples but created in the post-conquest era. The handsome vessel was turned on a lathe to create its elegant form. Its colorful decorative program consists of a wide, upper register of stylized geometric motifs in red, yellow, and green hues, a lower register depicting two standing figures amidst foliated or feathered forms, and below this, a flared foot featuring incised linear and additional painted stylized geometric motifs to complement the upper register. Such wooden keros were created for the consumption of delectable chicha beer and other libations. Size: 4.375" in diameter at widest x 5.75" H (11.1 cm x 14.6 cm)
