Description
**First Time At Auction**
Roman Empire, Imperial Period, ca. 3rd to 4th century CE. A grand mold-made terracotta oil-burning vessel, in hues of grey and brown, with a flat base, rounded side walls, curved shoulders which feature several sets of incised abstract geometric motifs, an applied semi-circular handle, a large fill hole, and a protruding wick spout with twin undulating bands near the end of the neck channel. The great size would have produced a substantial amount of light and would have been used to shed light on everything from household work to guard duty. Lucite display stand not included. Size: 6.625" L x 3.75" W x 2.75" H (16.8 cm x 9.5 cm x 7 cm).

Condition
Surface wear commensurate with age, several stable hairline fissures, minor losses to handle, shoulders, and neck spout, and earthen deposits throughout. A spot of red pigmentation, minor adhesive residue, and a white sticker with "34" written in blue ink are on the base of the vessel.
