Description
**First Time At Auction**

Luristan, modern day northern Iran, ca. 1000 to 600 BCE. This is a lost wax cast bronze spearhead with a low rib extending to a short, narrow tang with a riveting hole. The style of the spearhead is that of Marlik Type VI, a major archaeological site associated with Luristan - a mound that contained at least fifty-three tombs. Within these tombs, researchers found a large number of bronze spearheads, which they have theorized were very popular weapons for Marlik's warriors, who lived in a forested, mountainous region. Size: 10.8" L x 1.5" W (27.4 cm x 3.8 cm)

Provenance: Whisnant Gallery, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, acquired over twenty years ago; ex-Arthur Sackler collection
