Southeast Asia, Vietnam, Dong Son culture, ca. 500 BCE to 0 CE. A bronze spearhead with excellent form, including a sharp, leaf-shaped, double-sided blade, and two small oval openings near the socket. The socket itself widens away from the base of the weapon. The casting technique for Dong Son bronzes was demanding artistically and technically, and it seems likely based on archaeological investigation that they were made by local workshops staffed by specialists. These specialists shared knowledge throughout their geographic region, and spears like the one here are similar to those from the Warring States period in China. Small losses to edges of blade as shown, and also around end of socket. Form is clear, with a pale teal patina that is almost sky blue in places, a rare color for bronze that is sometimes seen with Dong Son pieces because of their copper alloy.
