Description
A fantastic Roman Republican bronze oil lamp, 2nd - 1st Century BC, the rounded body with long slender round-tipped nozzle, fill-hole with incised ridges and grooves around and floral lugs to either side of the body's forepart and floral decoration to either side of the leaf-shaped handle ornament and beautiful support connecting handle to body, low raised ring base with flared foot. L: 9 in (22.8cm). A pleasant example with nice light green over brown patina. Ex collection of Lieutenant Commander Henry Honychurch Gorringe, later consigned to the Worcester Art Museum, and including original museum collection numbers.
