**First Time At Auction**
South Asia, Indus River Valley, Mehrgarh, ca. 2600 to 2500 BCE; Roman Empire, North Africa, Carthage, ca. 5th to 4th century BCE. A pair of ancient terracotta fragments from two of the oldest ancient cultures. The first item is the top half of a Mehrgarhian mother goddess figure, with decorated headdress, prominent nose, a plethora of stylized necklaces, and small hands covering large exposed breasts. The second item is a hollow, dark-hued visage of a horse with a crested mane, muscular neck, broad and flat snout, and a fierce expression. A lovely pair dating back thousands of years! Size of horse: 2.25" L x 0.875" W x 2.125" H (5.7 cm x 2.2 cm x 5.4 cm); Size of mother goddess: 1" L x 1.5" W x 2.75" H (2.5 cm x 3.8 cm x 7 cm).

Condition
Both are fragments of larger figures, and both have surface wear commensurate with age. Horse has minor losses to mane and face, some surface pitting, and earthen deposits. Mother goddess has minor loss to tip of nose and underside of arm, and earthen deposits throughout.
