Pre-Columbian, Mayan Territories, Mexico, Yucatan region, Maya, ca. 550 to 900 CE. A large volcanic stone mace head. Heavy porous stone carved in a typical doughnut (or donut) form with tapered central hole to accept wooden shaft. Both hefty and lethal in the right hands! Size: 4.75" W x 2" H (12.1 cm x 5.1 cm); size of central hole: 1.25" W (3.2 cm).
Provenance: Whisnant Gallery, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, acquired over twenty years ago
