Description
**Originally Listed at $150**

West Africa, Benin, 19th century CE. A charming cast leopard (or possibly a serval), shown in a low, slunk down position, with a fish or stick in its mouth and its long tail wrapped around its lower body. His spots are in relief, as are his eyes and ears. Leopard imagery in Benin society was linked to the oba, the ruler, and often related to his military prowess. In this depiction, he is shown as a successful hunter. Size: 3.8" L x 1.1" W x 1.75" H (9.7 cm x 2.8 cm x 4.4 cm)

Provenance: private collection of the late Peter Arnovick, San Francisco, California, USA
