Description
Rare Rockingham Pottery Pitcher, Inscribed "PROTECTION TO AMERICAN INDUSTRY," possibly Rochester, NY, second half 19th century, featuring a raised design of an arm holding a hammer, with inscription in plaque below, the surface covered in a streaked reddish-brown glaze over a cream-colored ground. A similar pitcher, bearing the name "EVERITT / ROCH." suggests this mold was used in Rochester, NY, possibly at the Burger manufactory. 1 1/2" line to front of spout and 2 1/2" line to left side of spout. A tiny nick to handle. A few tight short lines to base, primarily visible on underside. Some surface wear to exterior rim area. H 9".
