Europe, probably western Europe, ca. 16th century CE. A black-glazed pottery head of a lion, made as an applique. The face is sensitive, with small eyes and a well-rendered nose and muzzle. The mane is large and stylized. Comes with custom stand. Size: 2" L x 2.9" W x 2.75" H (5.1 cm x 7.4 cm x 7 cm); height on stand: 4" (10.2 cm).
Provenance: private S. K. Bavarian, Germany collection, acquired in the 1960s
