Item Details
Description
**First Time At Auction**

Europe, Germany, ca. 17th century CE. A heavy Wiebelhausen brand broad axe head, made of iron, with a maker's mark "WIEBELHAUSEN G.M.B.H." and a bottom line that is difficult to read but seems to refer to its casting on one side. The blade itself is sturdy and thin, and the cutting edge is still extremely sharp despite its worn appearance. A wide hole in the center meant for a wooden shaft is still intact, and the two-pronged prying end would have been used for nail or spike removal. These axes would have been useful for digging trenches or building earthworks. Size: 7.55" L x 1.125" W x 4.125" H (19.2 cm x 2.9 cm x 10.5 cm).

Provenance: ex-Oleg Rodchenkovaa collection, Kiev, Ukraine; ex-private Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA collection
