Item Details
Description
Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Michoacan area, Tarascan culture, ca. 1350 to 1521 CE. A bright, cheerful tripod vessel with a cross-hatched, unpainted "grater" in tondo. Around this area are undulating waves, triangles, and lines in red, orange, and creamy white all the way up to the rim. The exterior body continues the colors and symbols, as do the legs. Michoacan was a regional power in Mexico and people living in their urban areas would have had a variety of pottery available to them both for domestic use in life and placed within their graves in death. Size: 7.25" W x 4.25" H (18.4 cm x 10.8 cm)

Provenance: private Ventura County, California, USA collection
