Description
**First Time At Auction**

Classical World, Etruria, ca. 7th century BCE. A Bucchero pottery chalice on a flared stem; the bowl is decorated with horizontal fans above two incised encircling bands and with a notched ridge below, emphasizing the bowl. The stem also has incised bands where it flares outward. Bucchero is a specifically Etruscan style for firing pottery which results in a smooth, shiny black finish. This chalice may have been made specifically to be buried with offerings, as was the case for much fine Etruscan pottery. Size: 6.5" W x 6.5" H (16.5 cm x 16.5 cm)

Provenance: private Carlton Collection, Los Angeles, California, USA, acquired between 1965 and 1980
