Book Condition: Good. Dust Jacket Condition: No Jacket. Edition: 1st Edition. This is the quarto (11.5" x 8.25") two-volume (886 total pages) leather-bound illustrated history of Napoleon and his time, in the original french. The leather spines and corners are scuffed, with some missing surface material, but the spines are straight and the gilt lettering clearly legible. The connections to the insides are secure. The marbled boards have a number of scuffs, but they are unfaded overall, with strong color and no significant stains (see photos). The inside are very good. The only attachments are the personal bookplates of Howland Pell, to each front inside cover. There are no other stamps or the like. There is no writing. The bindings are tight, with no loose or missing pages.There are no page tears. There are a few spot and other small stains, and there is a group of pages (713-20) that has been stained from articles left in place. Most pages have no stains. All the art (13 full page color plates, 431 black and white illustrations and 21 maps), is in excellent condition, with no fade, stains, tears or creases. The accompanying photos are accurate reflections of the books' conditions. International buyers should note these books are large and heavy.
