Description
Timothy's Quest 1890, Houghton, Mifflin. Boston Classic Kid's Fiction 1890, inscribed by Kate Douglas Wiggin, who also wrote Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm and Mother Carey's Chickens. Timothy is an orphan child, who looks after a toddler named Gay in the inner city house where they're kept by a couple of old harridans; this seems out of Dickens but Wiggin was a social reformer with an interest in children, so I suspect it's more or less realistic. Things take a turn and Timothy and Gay light out for the country, and just happen to wind up at a certain farm where... you know where this is going. There's the crabby older lady, who had a disgraced dead sister who had a child, and, do you think Timothy looks like her? Do you think Timothy will melt all those old stone hearts? It's not a matter of where the plot is going, it's a matter of how it gets there. Approx. 7x5 inches. Very good condition.
