Description
Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A pretty fibula (brooch) in the form of a fly or cicada with an elongated, cylindrical body and two long wings that extend outward from the back of its body. A pin with a coil hinge is cast onto the back, and a small projection from the back serves as part of a clasp (the other half seems to be lost). Incised and stippled details form a head and wings. Size: 1.8" W (4.6 cm)

Condition
Dark, smooth patina. One wing may have been repaired, but if so, repair is well done and almost invisible. Pin is present and has some movement. A small part of the clasp may be lost.
