Description
A nice Roman discus lamp depicting an eagle, late 1st - early 2nd Century AD, the bird is perched within the central discus, bordered by ridges and grooves, fill-out to left. The shoulders are plain the nozzle with volutes and small wick-hole. At back a ring handle with incised lines, the bottom with slightly raised disk and no mark. A nicely preserved example with orange slip beneath deposits. L: 4 3/4 in (12cm), W: 2 7/8 in (7.4cm). Ex Dallas private collection.
