Folk Art: Extensively Carved Powder Horn Dated 1818. 11.25" long powder horn, sans plug, carved over the entire surface with portraits, ships, animals, etc. The base of the horn reads: "1818. Carlton Rogers N.B.D." The design elements include: snake, alligator, lion, fish, crucifix, ships, tools, harpoon, anchor, duck, cow, birds, fowl, lighthouse, British fort, American eagle, Masonic signs, sun, moon, compass, cannons, hunter, military tent, gentleman, bare-chested lady, trident, etc. One of the ships flies an American flag. All the carvings stand out well. Lovely pale yellow, tan patina. A great example of the genre.
