Description
1578 Fruitful Bible Sermons of Hugh Latimer English MARTYR Church of England Bernher
“The drop of rain maketh a hole in the stone, not by violence, but by oft falling”
– Hugh Latimer
Hugh Latimer was an early 16th-century English bishop and chaplain to King Edward VI. He is remembered for two aspects of his life – 1) his sermons of which many were pivotal in the Protestant Reformation, 2) his death, in which he was burned alive by Queen Mary.
This collection of his sermons, entitled ‘Fruitful Sermons” was printed in 1578. Originally printed under the title ’27 Sermons,’ this edition is a much more thorough and complete example of Latimer’s sermons and was edited by Augustine Bernher, a Belgian clerk and servant to Latimer.
