19th century Japanese tobacco pipe consisting of 2 bronze parts and a stem made out of reed. Brass smoking part and mouthpiece have identical relief design of a dragon in flight among clouds, flames issuing from its body and a Precious Gem clutched in its claws. Excellent sharp work, great detailing of its face, scales and claws. Characteristic small bowl (Japanese used finely shredded tobacco, and usually made just 2-3 puffs), traces of tobacco residue. Nice old piece with pleasant signs of wear. Length 9 inches.
