19c Japanese Tobacco Silver Pipe Pouch Ojime Kiseruzutsu. 19th century Japanese smoking set consisting of tobacco pouch, ojime, kiseruzutsu (tobacco pipe holder) and a pipe. Tooled leather pouch made to resemble alligator skin, beautiful metal clasp in a shape of a bunch of rice stems with leaves and grains. The pouch still contains finely shredded tobacco. Kiseruzutsu has been made by steam bending a wooden strip in a shape of a thread, so a pipe in a sense screws into it. Simple pipe with 2 silver pieces (marked - see detail) joined by a reed stem. Ojime in a form of a natural fruit pit skillfully carved with 2 scenes of scholars engaged in discussions under trees, old silk cord. Wonderful set with clean lines and excellent sense of design. Pouch length 5 inches, kiseruzutsu length 7 1/2 inches.
