Federal cherry inlaid high chest of drawers, likely Western Pennsylvania. Cherry veneer with white pine and poplar secondary. Overhanging molded cornice with barber pole inlaid edges, above a frieze with alternating light and dark sawtooth or half diamond over reed inlay. Case with six dovetailed drawers, the top tier with two narrow drawers (left drawer with narrow secret dovetailed drawer, pine and poplar, hidden above in cornice section, drawer: 3 3/4" H x 8 1/2" W x 16 1/4" D), over four graduated long drawers all inlaid with alternating light and dark quarter fans and crossbanded edges, outlined in barber pole inlay with diamond inlaid escutcheons; quarter round side columns with carved and reed-inlaid capitals to the top and bottom and barber pole inlay to the sides. Side of case with inlaid tall vases of flowers within circular string inlay. Lower stiles with inlaid figural pole or column, repeated on the tall tapered legs and surrounded by string inlay; all joined by a straight skirt with contrasting line and dash inlaid edges. 65 1/4" H x 52" W x 24" D. Scattered veneer and inlay losses throughout, mostly to cornice and skirt. Losses to back edge of top. Old repair to side of top left drawer. A couple of drawer runners replaced. Some scattered paint/residue transfer to case. Wear and abrasions to surface.
