Item Details
Description
Bronze. Indien, Indo-Nepalese, ca. 1st half of the 20th cent.

A very attractive, large bronze sculpture with aristocratic facial features, diadem and tall crown, kirita-mukata. Above all, the srivatsa presented by the goddess on the palm of her hand suggests that this is Lakshmi. This portent of good fortune is also located on the chest of the high deity Vishnu, her husband. Lakshmi is a goddess of beauty and of happy welfare, one of whose names is also Sri or Sri-Lakshmi. This tall bronze statue, composed of six parts, shows her standing in tribangha on a well formed lotus base. Her floor-length dress is richly decorated and decorative chains run over her bare chest. Jewelry also adorns her arms and large decorative rings her ears. Blackish patina.
