Description
RHODE ISLAND, CIRCA 1890 A souvenir handkerchief of Samuel Slater engraved by A. L. Bodwell for the Cranston Print Works Company. The piece depicts a central portrait of Slater over the Slater family crest with "Crescit sub pondere virtus" (Virtue thrives under oppression) motto and images of important landmarks in the corners. Slater is correctly described as "The father of American manufacturers".
