A large, intricately carved wooden folk art Rooster, dating from the early 20th century, perhaps a bit earlier. It looks like it should be from Pennsylvania, but I cannot be sure (I bought it in New Hampshire). There is great detail in the carved feathers and the tail, and it is carved out of 2 chunks of wood: 1 piece for the head, body, legs and base; and the second piece of wood for the tail; the 2 pieces are bonded together unobtrusively (see close-up photos). It stands 14 ¾” tall (to of the comb) and beak to tail distance is about 10”. The wooden base measures 6 14” x 4 ½”. Very fine condition: no areas of damage, and the only split is a short one that runs through the side of the base (about 2” total length). The beak, comb and tail are without problems. No signature or markings that I can find.
