**First Time At Auction**

Ancient seas, ca. 40 million to 1 million years ago; North America, Pliocene to Pleistocene, 100,000 to 20,000 years old. A group of fourteen items that have undergone the process of fossilization. First are a pair of teeth from a juvenile mastodon (Mammut americanum), both displaying detailed root structures and cusp-shaped grinding surfaces. Second are six ancient mollusk shells with shallow grooves along most exterior surfaces. Third are a pair of sand biscuits and a single sand dollar, which are flattened sea urchins that dwell on the ocean floor. Fourth are a pair of petite fossilized, matrix-encased fish, with upturned mouths and visible skeletal structures. Last is a slender austerops trilobite encased within a stone matrix, with excellent remaining details. A wonderful gathering from ancient North America! Size of largest (fossilized fish): 4.375" L (11.1 cm).

Mastodon teeth have small losses to root structures, with nicks and hairline fissures along peripheries. Small mollusk shells are intact with only minor chips. Sand biscuits and dollar are intact and very good. Fish fossils have small chips to peripheries of matrices and losses to some details. Trilobite has chips and nicks to matrix peripheries. All items have age-commensurate surface wear with earthen deposits throughout.
