The Dancer by Andres Cortes Y Aguila, is an oil on canvas, in an old if not original frame and has been behind glass for a long time resulting in close to if not mint condition. It is hard to photograph this piece without getting a glare. The painting itself measures some 34" wide by 52 1/2" tall, framed dimensions are 43" wide by 61 1/2" tall. The frame is a deep Walnut with gold leaf liner. The Dancer is standing in a 3/4 pose on an oriental rug in sensual clothes, her shoes are to her right on the floor, bracelets on each arm, gold ear rings, a dark background. Her dress is a cream or light ecru color. Probably from 1860-1870 era. By the Depression, the painting was in Chicago, where it was purchased by a Russian immigrant, where it remained for the next 50 years, until his widow gifted this to the seller. The painting is very fluid in movement as well as sensual, the folds of the dress are noticeable.
