Description
Ca. 1800, 420 x 171 cm, West Anatolia
This long two-panel kilim presenting a composition of horizontal stripes is finely woven and meticulously worked. The designs of the two panels align almost perfectly, as is seldom the case in striped kilims. It is a very rare example. We were unable to find any comparative pieces in the publications available to us. Two wide panels of open design in red and blue, each containing six large hooked diamonds, mark the centre of the field. The sections above and beneath them, which take up the largest part of the surface, are decorated with a wealth of narrower stripes, creating an effect of huge elems. Several bands display designs reminiscent of Yüncü kilims. The kilim was probably woven in the area between Kütahya and Eskisehir. – Good condition.
