Old Kwoma dancing mask - East Sepik, Papua New Guinea. It was made by the Kwoma civilization and was used both in initiation rituals and ceremonies in honor of the cultivation and harvesting of yams. These masks are recognizable by their large size and prominent nose. Of these mask is said that it represent the water spirits / ancestors who live in the lakes. They are sometimes seen just below the surface of the water. Each clan had a few Kwoma that were shown at the bottom of the village. This is an old tribal used object. sold without stand.
