Description
Pre-Columbian, Guatemala, Mayan, ca. 550 to 900 CE. An endearing seated monkey figure, carved from a beautiful piece of dark greenstone with white inclusions. Finely detailed via string cutting, the figure sits in a crouched position with his hands placed upon his knees, and skillfully delineated facial features, fingers, and toes. In the Pre-Columbian world, the monkey was associated with playfulness, foolery, and even debauchery. I wonder what this little fellow is up to? Size: 2.625" H (6.7 cm)
