Missing diplomat.- Bathurst (Benjamin, diplomatist, 1784-1809).- Bathurst (Phillida, wife of Benjamin Bathurst, daughter of Sir John Call, Bt., c. 1774-1855) Long Autograph Letter to Charles Stuart de Rothesay, British Minister at Lisbon, (incomplete), folio & sm. 4to, n.d., [c. 1810], relating to Bathurst's disappearance in 1808, while on his way home to Britain from Austria after the Treaty of Schönbrumn, recounting what she has learnt of her husband's last days, in Berlin, a friend, the Count de Bombelle, tells her that Bathurst appeared "languid and weak", and telling her of Bathurst's fear of assassination, his suspicion he had been poisoned and his destruction of his papers. In Perleberg, he had appeared delirious at the time of departure, ordering "the horses to be put to and went to walk round the carriage - then he gradually went down a street... and disappeared", folds, browned; and a small collection of letters written by people on the Grand Tour, and observations on the radical politician John Wilkes etc., folds, browned, v.s., v.d.
