American Privateers.- Inglis (Sir Hugh, East Indies merchant and politician, 1744-1820) Autograph Letter signed to Viscount Melville, First Lord of the Admiralty, 2pp. with conjugate blank, sm. 4to, Milton Bryant [Bedfordshire], 13th November 1812, concerning a communication Inglis has received from James Horsburgh, Hydrographer to the East India Company, who "professes more knowledge of the Eastern Seas than perhaps any other man now in Europe; he is likewise well acquainted with several of the American Captains who traded to China and India and from his knowledge of their enterprising character he entertains a confidential opinion that heavy vessels will be sent to the Eastward of the Cape", also a memorandum detailing how best to protect "all the coasts and the innumerable islands to the Eastward of the Cape of Good Hope...", folds, browned; and a quantity of others, including: a collection of documents in French and English relating to a presentation to Sir David Dundas from Trophime-Gérard Lally-Tolendal of a silver-gilt cup in recognition of his efforts in support of the French emigré community in London during the French Revolution, 1819-21; 4 Autograph Letters from Admiral Skeffington Lutwidge (1737-1814) to Sir Robert Bateson-Harvey, 1793-1810 etc., v.s., v.d.
