Description
Rare French bronze mantle clock is themed to the fairy tale of "Little Red Riding Hood" (French: Petit Chaperon rouge), the figure of a young girl is carrying presents for her grandmother through the woods where she is confronted by the wolf. The gilt figures stand in front of a wooden hut having a dark brown patina which contains the clock, 3.75 in. repainted porcelain dial with gilt hands and an unsigned round French brass 8 day spring driven silk thread movement with half hour strike on a bell. Gilt case finish is dirty and tarnished, feet are replaced with spelter castings, matching casting replaces the outside support beam of the hut behind the girl; dial is painted, pendulum is missing. Ref. p.179 (img. 291) of "French Bronze Clocks" by Elke Niehuser, 1999. Measures 13.25 in. high x 11.75 in. wide x 6 in. deep. Weight: 21.75 lbs.
