Cambodian Khmer sandstone Buddha head, with typical anatomical features of a serene face, heavy-lidded eyes beneath gently curved ridged brows, broad nose, full lips with a slight smile, and elongated pendant earlobes under a simple coiffure of plaited braids drawn up into a domed chignon encircled by a simple diadem, typical of the carvings from the great Khmer Baphuon period, 11th century; mounted on a tapering black stone base labeled "Sandstone Head Antique Cambodian." Head: 7.75: H; overall: 14.5" H. Some roughness and irregularity to reverse, from removal from original site; also with age-related wear and losses.
