Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, 26th to 31st Dynasty, ca. 664 to 332 BCE. A beautiful gathering of three faience button scarabs, each with an integral perforated suspension loop across the underside. The two larger buttons are either a pale or dark hue of blue-green, and the smallest scarab has a pistachio-green color. Each button has a light glazed surface which helps to accentuate their insectile features. Ancient Egyptians believed scarabs had an inherent regenerative power, so mummies would oftentimes have such scarab buttons sewn into the lining of their funerary wrappings in order to facilitate these processes in the afterlife. Size of largest (blue-green): 0.625" L (1.6 cm).
Provenance: ex Hank Johnson collection, Denver, Colorado, USA; ex HD-Enterprise, Denver, Colorado, USA, acquired from the estate of Philip Mitry, Cairo, Egypt, collected in the 1950s

Condition
All items have age-commensurate surface wear, fading to pigmentation and light loss to surface glaze. Light earthen deposits within recessed areas and mineral deposits throughout, otherwise intact and very good.
