An Olmec Jade Figure
c. 1000 - 500 BC
Standing with arms crossed over chest, drilled for suspension at crook of arms and ears. Typical Olmec head with elongated forehead with cleft at crown. Eyes and corners of the mouth drilled for inlay. Carved from an opaque speckled light blue-green jade. In excellent condition.
Accompanied by a Robert Stoetzer survey of authenticity and provenience, which includes approx. 40 power microscopic photos of this piece showing different layers of patination and remnants of ancient hematite; no modern tooling.
