A Costa Rican Jade Axe
c. 1000 - 1400 AD
Finely carved from speckled and veined dark blue-green stone. Depicts a bird head with broad beak, possibly an owl with ear tufts at the top, folded wings, short blade. Pierced through neck for suspension. In excellent condition.
