ENGLISH CREAMWARE CERAMIC COVERED SAUCE TUREEN WITH UNDERPLATE, comprising a tureen, a lid, and underplate having oval forms, decorated by painted phoenix crests and brown borders. Impressed mark of "NEALE & Co" on base of underplate. Together with a porcelain cream jug or sauce boat with blue painted design, raised on three feet. Unmarked. Two pieces total. James Neale & Co., Hanley, Staffordshire. Circa 1780. 3 1/2" and 6" HOA.
Areas of restoration. Lid has chips on the interior rim, underplate has 3" to 4" through hairline from rim to center and minute flaking on rim, and cream jug/sauce boat has chips on the back two feet.

Base of sauce tureen undamaged other than one minute flake on rim and several minute flakes on foot; cover has chips on the interior rim, underplate has 3" to 4" through hairline from rim to center and minute flaking on rim; sauce boat has chips on the back two feet and stapled brass repair to handle.
